School's starting, need money for art materials [and food. always food], the usual drill. I'm trying to sell cheaper commissions that I can finish quickly.

Cheap Commissions in September

I'm offering waist-up pencil sketch commissions at USD 5.00 per character for the month of September.
The quality you'd get would be something like this
These sketches will be:
- done on 6x9, 160gsm paper.
- The original will be shipped to you
- Group pics limited to 3 characters
What I won't draw:
- Porn
- Backgrounds
- Anything with extremely excessive detail (e.g. If your character has snake-scale armor, an elaborate headdress that consists of small little statues and embroidering, I won't draw it. WOL IS ACCEPTABLE THOUGH -shot-)
What I will draw:
Pretty much everything else. Ask if you're not sure.
I'd have to ask for payment before I start the sketch.

I seem to be only posting to ask feedback all the time these days xD
I'm sure some of you guys who have Pixiv accounts know about Pixiv Fantasia III that just ended a couple of months back. So... we were thinking of recreating an English version on Manga Bullet (Because their tag system seems the easiest to handle.) We're probably going to start the event on August 1. But I'm not sure what kind of enquiries might come up, so I was thinking of making an attempt to explain MB Fantasia (yes I know, no creativity) here, and see if there are things I missed, or any questions that people might want to ask >.< Appreciate it a whole lot if you guys could read through this long looong post and tell me what you think about it. Anyway, maiki did do a sort of summary explaining what PF III was about here

Hey guys, I really really am in need of money (no luck finding the desk off the streets and bus fares going up in July jadhlsjfglk) as usual, so I'm taking commissions...of any sort really. It's 5.40pm and I haven't really done anything today... still got 2 more compositions to sketch out for tommorow's class, put everything into a nice presentation, anatomy homework and... wah. WAH. What have I been doing.

There's a question that occured to me in the shower today. It'd be nice if anyone replies with their opinions :D When you have a preference for a certain character to be the uke (e.g, say, your preference is AllGoku, or AllTsuna, or AllHibari) If you think about it a little bit, is it because the character is your favourite and most likely someone you'd fawn over, and that's why you wouldn't mind all the characters giving them their attention?
Just a thought. Kept public so anyone can reply. No criticising others' opinions please, let's keep it nice.
Edit: Before I get more replies about stereotypical roles, I meant to phrase the question more like, is there a certain reason behind fandom bicycles? (either character x all or all x character) I just used sou-uke because I rarely, rarely see sou-seme pairings around (does that point out another trend yet?) |

No, actually that's not the reason for keysmash, even though the 6927 doujin is rather tempting T>T
AHHH SAK SAK SAK. The bookmarks and calendars are gonna be the suckiest things I ever made (If i could make them in time orz;;;) I can't align the calendars to be double sided so I have to put them together manually, cut them out and then laminate them (and laminating will cost me because I have no laminating machine. WOE.)

Luckily I'm only printing 12 of everything... I found my old Sasuke + Naruto prints so I guess I'll be selling those as well *wipes the plastic clean* GYARGH. Remember T_T Focus is Rojak *mumbles to self* Should I even contemplate selling them online? ._. Small stuff like bookmarks and calendars and A4 prints (who am I kidding |D)
After SoY is done and I have more time, I'll be taking pictures of pencil boards and stuff I have x_X I no longer have interest in collecting posters and stuff, so I guess I'll just sell them all before my parents clean up my cupboard some time in the 4 years I'm gone and go "W-what is this?!"
AAU had better find my documents and get me my I-20 form soon or I'll just shoot myself DX I want my visa application to go smoothly and BEFORE I start school. Oh man... *goes and fills up housing application despite doubts*

This is the first time (and certainly not the last) I will talk about Reborn manga. Please ignore since I've already sounded the alarms.
- Ryohei is as dorky as ever XD
- Yamamoto is looking more his age (15? 16?)O___O

But... BUT. I can look over using fanart for whatever you like even though I don't agree with it, but the racist comments really are over the top. I would like to say English is an international language and anyone who can get on the Internet will be able to understand it to some extent, not to mention it's taught as a second language in most Asian countries. WTF. W.T.F.

XD Looks like it's invaded our brains the moment At World's End came ashore *shot*
T___T I sure hope it's showing by the time I'm back in Singapore >_<; Boss called me in at 4+ today and asked if it was ok to ask me to go to HongKong with them tommorow. I was stunned and "uh"ed for a looong time, and she was asking if I had something important going on, but I couldn't tell her "I'm watching PoTC: At World's End tommorow night, so I can't go on a buying trip and meeting suppliers with you" D8 At any rate, it happened so suddenly, that I left near 7 today and my head was pounding because I had to clear all my work before I leave. ^_^;;; She's bringing her kid along so I reckon it's a business trip but not that serious and hardcore as the ones in my previous job... But... 3 days in Hong Kong, 3 days in Guangzhou and 3 days in Taiping. It sounds tiring as it is already ;;;
My contract's been extended to 6 months because of the Hong Kong trip. Boss was utterly surprised when I said ok. "You like this job??" "uh..." "...Are you learning? Are you glad you're learning?" "Yes, yes I am."
The bosses are kinda impulsive at times, but I hopefully made the right choice this time. Even if I didn't, I promise myself to stay on at least a year.
So...anyhoo, I'm praying hard that SIA has Chow Yun Fatt saying "Welcome to Singapore" in their movie list for tommorow's flight >__<; Guh. Sorry guys T___T;;; No internet, not sure if I have my auto-roam on, if your SMSes are bouncing back, it means I'm kinda retarded in the new temp phone area DX I'll be bringing my sketchbook along and hopefully finish the 2 doujin projects I have without the distraction of internet by the time I come back. Bad thing is... no references D8

Because my old phone totally died, its screen actually, and I can't even view the phone's numbers to manually transfer them into my old sim card ;__; So I have to go round gathering contacts again. Yeah, well, before you go "NOT AGAIN" I'd just like to say that I'm typing this on personal experience, just to let people know why I'm against using fanart/doujin scans in icons without the artist knowing.
I, personally, would not feel good if someone I didn't know, never even bothered to talk to me or send me an email, used my fanart as an icon. I thought it would. I thought I'd feel flattered if someone used my art for something personal, but no. Only when I experienced it myself, did I understand why all those artists against their art being used as icons were so anal about it.
So as the story goes, I was involved in SasuxNaru lj comm, still am but not quite. One fine day I was looking at a fic, looking through its comments, and I saw an icon I made of a friend's fanart on someone's username. I did post it on a public post, saying that it doesn't matter if I wasn't credited for the icon, but please credit the artist, name included. I won't point out which friend, because I can't remember if I ranted it to you before ^^; I was curious to see if my conditions were followed so I went to look at the user's userpics page. Lo and behold, the artist's name wasn't there. Nor was mine even. So I asked her where she got the icon from. She told me a friend sent it to her. I went to that friend's userpic page (I swear, I don't stalk on regular basis OTL) and I saw another icon made from my fanart o_O It was that Valentine's day pic I posted on the comm quite long ago (I deleted it from DA already) and there was a credit in the comments to a friend.
I asked her where she got the art from and could she credit me. I even showed her the original art on my DA site. She told me a friend sent it to her and she had no idea I drew it. And so she credited the friend who sent her the fanart. (The first thought in my mind was "fxxxing hell, that pic is on right on top of my da and I frequent the lj comm. I'm not being egoistic, but I KNOW I'm sort of known on the comm for that pic. I kinda think you were too lazy to find out.")
It ended peacefully, but I have my reservations about posting art in the comm now. And I can tell you, it's not a nice feeling to find out that some stranger just made an icon from a fanart their friend sent them and didn't bother to find out WHO the artist was, much less give a damn about asking if you would let them make your art into icons or banners or whatnot. And honestly, that's the same as using scans for icons and crediting the scanner. You credit the person who provided you with the picture, but you don't bother or even care who drew it. It's a very very uncomfortable feeling. It's also the same reason why black_sun_shine was previously F-locked.
I would like to know where my art is going, and what is being done to it, at least. And that's how I view using fanart and doujinshi as icons.
Feel free to pimp this to the point of abuse ^^; It's just a personal experience on how a no-name, not recognised artist feels about the usage of her artwork. If you're going to tell me that I shouldn't even post art in public places if I don't want it to be used without my permission, do know I am already f-locking the artwork that mean something to me. |
